Lizzie is a single mom trying to raise her independent daughter while working at the same restaurant she's been working at her whole life, now best friends with her high school worst enemies. She knows life really can't get any better, but when pressed she makes a wish that she never truly believes is possible… not thinking about who might overhear.
Tay's life hasn't been the same after the accident some months ago. He's searching for forgiveness and redemption, and something to keep his mind busy. So when he hears Lizzie's wish for a fix-it man to come once a week, fix stuff, and the leave, he figures since he has nothing better to do he'd take the job. He didn't count on falling in love with her.
Lizzie must learn to face her desires and let go of her fear of disappointment before she can accept Tay, but once she does, he has to learn how to let himself be accepted and loved. And to move on with his life, he has to learn to forgive himself for taking someone else's.
This was a cute story about forgiveness and redemption. The plot and pacing were very good, and I was very quickly drawn into the story. I cared about all the characters, even though it took some time for me to get to like some of them. In the beginning Lizzie is very anti-men and Tay is very self-destructive in his thoughts. There also seemed to be a little bit of exterior monologue, but not a whole lot, and not often. I read it in a few hours and found it difficult to put down.
