This Week at The Life and Lies

It's fall break!! Woot! You've probably noticed something is up since I've published quite a few posts over the past few days after not posting anything for a long time. So yeah, that's what it is. :) Good times. Here's what I got in the mail:

for review:

Wildwing by Emily Whitman; Addy knows there's so much more to life than what she has. She must be destined for more than being a maid to an eccentric elderly man. And so when she finds a mysterious contraption in the gentleman's study, of course she steps inside. Of course she bumps into the wrong button. Suddenly Addy is in medieval England, mistaken for the young woman betrothed to the lord of the nearby manor. It's destiny. But is it home? And will she ever find her way back to her own time? Will she want to, once she's met the shy, handsome falconer's apprentice?

Awesome cover!

Tell me which cover you like better… I like the first one.

Lips Touch Three Times by Laini Taylor;

Three tales of supernatural love, each pivoting on a kiss that is no mere kiss, but an action with profound consequences for the kissers' souls:
Goblin Fruit: In Victorian times, goblin men had only to offer young girls sumptuous fruits to tempt them to sell their souls. But what does it take to tempt today's savvy girls?
Spicy Little Curses: A demon and the ambassador to Hell tussle over the soul of a beautiful English girl in India. Matters become complicated when she falls in love and decides to test her curse.
Hatchling: Six days before Esme's fourteenth birthday, her left eye turns from brown to blue. She little suspects what the change heralds, but her small safe life begins to unravel at once. What does the beautiful, fanged man want with her, and how is her fate connected to a mysterious race of demons?

The Naked Lady Who Stood On Her Head by Gary Small;

True stories are more bizarre than any fiction, and Dr. Gary Small, author of the bestselling MEMORY BIBLE, knows this best. After thirty distinguished years of psychiatry, Small has seen it all and in The Naked Lady That Stood on Her Head: A Psychiatrist's Stories of His Most Bizarre Cases opens his office doors for the first time to tell all about the most mysterious, intriguing and bizarre patients of his career. Written with Gigi Vorgan, the book is a spellbinding record of the doctor's most bewildering cases, from naked headstands and hysterical blindness to fainting schoolgirls and self-amputations. It is an illuminating journey into the mind of a practicing psychiatrist and his life in medicine as it evolves over time - a behind-the scenes look at the field and a variety of mental diseases as they've never been seen or diagnosed before.Often funny, sometimes tragic, and always compelling, Dr. Small takes you on a tour of his career that moves from the halls of a crowded inner-city Boston emergency room to the multi-million dollar ski lodges of the nation's elite. In between, he introduces a strange cast of true-life characters and conditions, while dealing with secret double lives, a man convinced that his penis is shrinking, and frighteningly psychotic romantic desires. His career and personal life come full circle when his own mentor becomes his patient, making Small realize that no one is beyond mental exploration - not even himself.

This just sounded incredible.

Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary by David Sedaris

Featuring David Sedaris's unique blend of hilarity and heart, this new collection of keen-eyed animal-themed tales is an utter delight. Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of everyday life.

In "The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck," three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In "Hello Kitty," a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In "The Squirrel and the Chipmunk," a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members.
