Jane Austen Challenge

I have never read Jane Austen. I’m dead serious. I don’t think that’s very good of me, do you? I figured the best (and most fun way) to get myself to read them would be to do a challenge. So here you go.

I don’t know if there is already another J.A. Challenge out there somewhere, but I’m creating one. Sign up in the comments and leave your link, and pick the button you’d like. Don’t forget to link back to this post!

Rules:

--Anyone can participate. Bloggers: leave a link to your challenge in the comments. Non-bloggers, leave your name (and e-mail if you like)

--Levels:

**Newbie 2 books by J. Austen, 2 re-writes, prequels, sequels, or spoofs (by other authors)

**Lover 4 books by J. Austen, 4 re-writes, prequels, sequels, or spoofs (by other authors)

** Fanatic 6+ books by J. Austen, 5+ re-writes, prequels, sequels, or spoofs (by other authors)

--Challenge books can overlap with other challenges.

--Any format counts: bound book, e-book (check online for free downloads of J.A’s copyright-free books), audio book, or any other thing you can think of.

--Challenge runs January 1st 2010—December 31 2010.

--You can change which level you read!

Here is my list: I’m going for the Lover level, and I’ll cross each off or link the reviews as I go

  1. (J.A) Pride and Prejudice
  2. (J.A) Sense and Sensibility
  3. (J.A) Emma
  4. (J.A) Northanger Abbey
  5. Re-write: Darcy’s Voyage
  6. Spoof: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies –the dawn of the dreadfuls
  7. variation: Conquering Mr. Darcy
  8. Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters

Now pick a button from above and post it on your blog somewhere. Have fun!

  8. Are the levels, such as love 4 books in total? Or are the 4 Jane Austen plus 4 related Jane Austen/sequels etc?

Also, if we started a book, but havent finished it, can I re-start that book and use it for the challenge? (I can't seem to get through Mansfield Park)

I would suggest you read Persuasion (instead of, say, Mansfield Park...); it's fantastic.
Also, do Jane inspired books that aren't necessarily rewrites or spoofs count (like According to Jane or Jane Austen Ruined My Life)?

  103. Oh, I have read two recently, so am on my way! With Emma and Northanger Abbey done, I will have to decide which one next...definitely an Austen lover, especially of filmed adaptations:

  110. I am participating!

We lived in England from Jun 2007 to Aug 2009 and I didn't even manage to read any JA while living there! I decided that I MUST rectify that!

    I have read:
    Pride and Prejudice (Jan 2010)
    Emma (March 2011)

I am not sure whether Helen Fielding's "Bridget Jones" books would be considered spoofs or rewrites or...?

I hope to read a few more Austen titles this year. I am also trying to read as many other classics as i can.

    My site is:
